Martin Luther King Jr. was a prominent figure in the American civil rights movement. He was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia, and became a Baptist minister and activist. King is best known for his role in advocating for racial equality and justice through nonviolent means. He played a crucial role in organizing and leading various civil rights protests, including the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the March on Washington, where he delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. King's efforts and leadership were instrumental in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Tragically, he was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy continues to inspire and influence the fight for equality and justice today.
